Safe Places Shropshire is pleased to welcome you to our own dedicated website providing useful information about the Safe Places Shropshire community initiative. We hope you will find it very useful and easy to use.
Our website can be used on desktops, laptops, Kindles and mobile phones. When deciding what we wanted from a website, we felt it was important to have a search box on the front page so you can find your nearest Safe Place in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin just by entering your location and pressing the search box. You also have the opportunity to change the distance, should you not find somewhere within 0 miles. You can search up to 20 miles from where you are.
You may think “Why a website and not an app?” Apps are very costly to run; we are a small charity and don’t have the financial resources to have an app. However, it is so easy to google

on your mobile phone and keep it in your search for easy access.
You can explore Safe Places by list, region or map. We also have news items, events and details on how your organisation/business can join our scheme. We have a dedicated tab with information about Hate Crime, including what is a Hate Crime, what to do if you are a victim and how to report a hate crime.
We will be adding new Safe Places to our lists as we sign them up. We can add photographs and information about the various regions. This will give you insight if you are planning to visit a particular area.
Disability Friendly. We wanted our website to be as inclusive as possible. We are using a widget on our website to help our users. Towards the bottom of your screen, in the middle, you will see a box with the word “Accessibility”. By clicking on “Accessibility” you have many options including changing the text size, font size, colour, spacing etc. making what you see and read easier. There is a “Dyslexic Friendly” box too enabling you to use legible fonts.
This project has also given us opportunity to include the opening times of Safe Places, if the information has been made available to us. Our website is an ongoing project so we will be adding other information. For example, if a venue has disabled access, disabled toilets or a changing place.
Even though, we are now “live” we still have work to do. We hope to have an on-line shop and a place where people can make donations to our work. We are all volunteers but Safe Places Shropshire still has costs to meet i.e. website maintenance, insurance, rent for storage of items donated to raise funds and out of pocket volunteer expenses as well as paying for promotional items, stationery, leaflets and Help cards.
The funding of this website has come from money raised at car boot sales together with a grant from Mid-Counties Cooperative. We thank Mid-Counties Cooperative and all who donate items so that we can raise funds and to all who buy from us.
