Some of you may think Safe Places Shropshire team have been very quiet recently so we thought we would give you an update on the work we have achieved that may have gone unseen.
This month we have signed up 8 new Safe Places and revisited a number who are already signed up. Sometimes we notice places are not displaying the Safe Place logo in their window. It is very important that our logo is displayed in windows so that people know a place is part of our scheme and they can go in and ask for help. We usually find that the reason for no longer displaying the logo is due to a change of ownership, replaced windows or new window dressing. It is helpful if you can contact us to request a window sticker. Recently, we discovered one place could not use the window decal (it is self-adhesive) as it is an old building so they display the Safe Places Shropshire Certificate instead. We are also looking to have some window stickers that are not self-adhesive enabling places to move the logo according to whatever display they have in their window.
The team has also taken part in The Dementia Wellbeing Day at Dawley Town Hall. We are very grateful to Siobhan Davies, Community Engagement Home Instead, East Shropshire for planning these important days and to Dawley Town Hall for hosting the latest event. The day was very informative, we made several new contacts and have a number of new places to sign up. We had opportunity to meet many members of the public and to network with other organisations.
On Friday 24th March, we went to the opening of 2023 LGBTQ+ History Festival at The Hive Shrewsbury. This was an interesting evening. We heard about SAND’s (Safe Ageing No Discrimination) journey, starting in 2012 towards making Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin a better place for LGBTQ+ people to age. We look forward to meeting with SAND with a view to signing up to their Covenant. From now until 26th April 2023, you have the opportunity to visit the 2006-2022 A Retrospective Exhibition by SAND at The Hive, Belmont, Shrewsbury SY11TE Tuesday-Friday 10am-4.30 pm. It is well worth visiting.
